SQLServer: 2005 Interface Woes

We've been evaluating SQLServer 2005 for a couple weeks now. It's taken that long just to get used to the new interface. In my humble opinion, it would have been better to spend more time working on features than working on the interface.

That said, after a few weeks of playing with it, I'm getting used to the new interface.

Drawbacks:
  1. Very resource consuming on the desktop
  2. Bringing up the properties / options page is very slow
  3. Getting a new query page is very slow as well
Benefits:
  1. The dynamic help tab is a nice addition as it doesn't' pop up a new window, and comes up fast
  2. Tabbed query pages/connections are great for organization purposes if you are working on multiple databases/servers at the same time. Reminds me of why I use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
  3. I suppose if you are a Visual Studio programmer, the interface is probably very straight forward for you.
We're reviewing and testing partitioning currently, so the next post will review some of the results. We also plan on evaluating SQLServer partitioning vs Oracle partitioning.
